power steering box leaking, is it hard to fix?
So my box is leaking at the shaft. Is this an easy job for the novice or should I let a pro fix it?

I changed one out by myself a couple of weeks ago. I went the NAPA exchange route.
It is not that difficult to change one but I would recomend that you get someone to help. The box is a little heavy and ackward when starting the 1st bolt. I used a floor jack to lift it into position, but another set of hands would have made the job much easier. |

I've found over time that if it's leaking on one end and you repair it the other end will start to leak shortly there after and considering the time invested to repair it the best thing to do is just replace it with a rebuilt unit.

I did the top one on mine and it was real easy. Just unbolt the steering column and you can work right in the wheel well. Mine has been dry since and that was probably 3 years ago?

Lucas Oil makes a power steering stop leak that's guaranteed. I used it on a Pontiac that was leaking and noisy. It was thick as maple syrup but it did the trick. Got it at Auto Zone.
