Quick Ratio Power Steering?
I'm in the process of finishing my '68s frame, and it's time for a new power steering box. I'd prefer a quicker ratio than the stocker. At one time I think AGR Steering in Fort Worth made one for '73-'87s, but they don't anymore. I say 73-87 because although my truck is a '68, I swapped in the front suspension and steering from a '78 when I installed the airbags and dropped spindles.
Does anyone know another of another company that makes a quick ratio box?

Check with Summit Racing. I was in their Reno retail store last week and the salesman looked it up and said they had them in stock.

Mr Shelly,
Early Classics offers one. I had one and sold it recently. I believe Mullins steering gear has them as well.

Last I checked, you could send your box, or drop it off like I did, and AGR would build it anyway you wished.

Thanks for the replies everyone. That gives me some more options.
GMCGRANDS - Did you use the box that you had? Were you satisfied with the performance? SCOTI - I know AGR had one listed for 73-87 at one time. That was years ago though. Their current catalog has 88-up only. 450hp69chevy - Thanks for the link! superchevy - Good info, thanks!

I just went through this. I bought a CCP quick ratio power steering gear, it is NOT a quick ratio it is a variable ratio box 17-13:1. I'm pretty sure the ECE box is variable also. I was going to send the box back because I remember reading that www.powersteering.com could build a 12:1 box. So, I emailed them about it....Here is the reply I got.
"Hey Jay the fastest I can go on a PU box is 16:1 ratio. It may already have that. It would be about 3.5 turns lock to lock on that vehicle. If you have 4 turns lock to lock it is a 24:1 ratio and can be upgraded to 16:1. Thanks Chip 417-864-6676" So, I kept the CCP box. Anyone know for sure if someone makes a true quick ratio box(12:1 or 13:1)for GM trucks? |

Mr Shelly,
I never installed the one I had. Changed to Fatman suspension before it ever got installed. It was supposed to be 3.5 turns lock to lock. Check with ECE the guys there are very informative and easy to talk with.
