bolt question ....
This question is for the bolt located in the front of the block near the timing cover on the lower passenger side. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=138417 It is the bolt in the first pic . I am in the process of changing motors . The first motor that was in originally in the truck did not have this bolt , and there where no oil leaks . Why is this ?

that bolt goes directly into an oil passage. If you read the post you linked to you will find that a long bolt inserted in there will hold the fuelpump rod in place while changing hte pump.Remove the longer bolt, replaqce with a short bolt and it stops the leaking.
Some one prolly changed th fuelpump, and forgot to put hte short bolt back in.I've done it myself

some of the engines were never drilled for that. Can't say why.

That hole is not always drilled all the way into the fuel pump rod passage. Sometimes you have to put a long bolt in it & turn it all the way down with a wrench to break out the backside of the hole into the fuel pump cavity before you can use it to hold the push rod. It will then leak after you put the new pump on, so that's when you need the short bolt & some sealer.
