I would go with an internally regulated unit. I think most people would say the same. A typical internally regulated 63-Amp Alt usually runs around 50 bucks at most auto parts stores and the plug is usually around 5 bucks. It is really easy to do and I believe there is a write-up in the FAQ section.

bad alternator
How did you determine that the alternator is bad? No charging, makes noise
what? They are pretty easy to fix if it's a bad bearing or brushes or a diode. Here's a website that explains a lot about one wire alternators and also there are some threads posted just recently about leaving the idiot lite wire hooked up to excite the charging circuit in the alternator. I think it was started by Putter. The search feature isn't working yet or you could use that. http://www.madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml Vettevet- old and knows alternators
