the truck has been sitting in the garage since last oct, full tank of gas with that gas stablizer in it...the battery has been inside sitting on a block of wood, so ill stick that back in the truck and should i be okay to fire it up or should i do an oil change first? any other things that need to be done? im sure i can just crank it over...but wanted to double check first

what I usually do is just crank it over for a while without giving it and gas just to let the oil start pumping through there. Once that's done with, just give'er a few pumps and turn the key...You should then hear a satisfying growl from the exhaust as gasoline is combusted in the cylinders and forced out through the exhuast manifold and down to the tailpipes.

actually, cranking it over on the starter will do more damage than getting it to fire on the first crank.
If you want to be annal, you could remove the ditributor, and run a primer tool in there...build up oil pressure, and then reinstall the dist and crank it up. While that is the best thing to do, you won't be doing much damage to just crank it up.
I would run it for 30 min or so, bringing it up to operating temp, then drain the oil and pull the filter.
As for your battery, the whole block of wood and cement draining the charge...it's BS. But I am willing to bet my left lug nuts that it'll need a charge.
So IMO...charge the battery, pour a little gasolin in the carb, and let her rip.

Longhorn Man is right about batteries draining via the case setting on concrete or the ground. That applied to old, rubber-based cases that were used way, way back in the day. Hopefully, I wasn't alive then.

yeah she fired right up, about 5 pumps of the pedal and it came alive...ran like a champ, let it run for 10 minutes then did an oil change. good to go now

while were on the topic dirt is actually what discharges a battery. the dirt on top of a battery will allow the posts to make connection and it turn cause a draw. the concrete floor thing is a myth
