trans.hump
My son just bought a72 cheyenne.It has a 400 s.b with aturbo 400 in it.We took the carpet off today and it has a removeable trans hump on it what is that for?

That's what's known as a "high hump". Big block trucks with standard trannies had them. Low humps were actually part of the floor (all one piece).

Who can say if a high hump is ncessary or not to be able to fit a small block and turbo 400 trans in a 2 wheel drive in the further back engine mounting holes. I know the dist. will be tighter but will the tranny fit under the low hump floor.

Its not that unusual....I have come across a quite a few truck with turbo 400's that have had high humps. It is in all BB turbo 400 trucks with automatic or standard trannies.
The odd 350 motor and high hump turbo 400 I have come across also. All standard 4 speed transmission trucks had high humps also. The SB 400 someone put in that truck. Doubt its originallity. The High hump without any holes is worth something to a BB turbo 400 automatic owner builder. It the correct application of that hump. Basically the high hump was for clearance issues from what I can figure out. High humps are typical in 4x4 applications also.

trans hump
The truck says 400 on the side .Does that mean this truck had a bb in it.We just found out that the motor in is a 350.If it was a big block what size would it be?

yup...400 means big block...and it would have been a 402.
400 small blocks were never installed in the 67 - 72 trucks. |
