Help with 350/350th new crossmembers?
OK, I need to know if I need to remove the old straight 6 crossmember and the old 3 speed crossmember? I'm pretty sure I need to remove the tranny one, but what about the engine one? If I remove it, where will the radiator mount back too??? Also, who should I get the new V8 and 350th crossmembers from? Does anyone sale bolt-ins or are they all weld in?

Not sure. You might post this one over on the Engine & Drivetrain section. I'll have these questions later myself. I'm doing all of the bodywork before working the drivetrain.

My father-in-law took the 216 out of his 1950 3100 and installed a chevy small block. He used the cross member from chevy duty without difficulty. I do not know if it was a bolt on or a weld on but I have found the folks at Chevy duty very open to questions. You can see theirs at http://www.chevyduty.com/frame-store.html

Save yourself time and overall $$$$ buy a new frame and suspension from RB Obsolete

Why would I do that? I don't need a new frame. I don't want coils in the front. I want to keep it mostly original, including the rough ride. What does buying a new frame have to do with my crossmember question anyway??? Also, looks like you are well off, by the list of cars your sig has. I, on the other hand, have very little money and can't just go out and buy useless stuff left and right. I have to save up for a part and hopefully can still pay bills afterwards...

Thank You, my wife has a newer car but I have had some of mine for 40years and am just getting around to finishing the last one, the 55.
If I had to do it over I would have started with a new frame instead of dollering one piece at a time as the funds came in. Yes I wanted those coil springs and better bracking and of corse more POWER. Good Luck with your project

LeftEar55 If you decide to go with the cross members you are going to have the same problem I’m having. You don’t need to cut out the front cross member but you do need to cut out the trans one. But your block will sit real close to the steering gear box. About 1¼ inch. No room for exhaust. I’m thinking of using u-joint on the steering column to make it fit. But I have seen some trucks with the same setup with no u-joints, I just cant remember how they went about doing it.
