Redrilling Axles????
Anyone have this done? what did it cost you?
I have a '69 6lug rear and don't really want to spend $300 for ECE's rear axles and then have to buy drums on top of that. and there aren't any good 5lugs in the NE that i know of...i've called abunch of yards/newspaper ads with no luck

Would there be enough room for the new holes? Any machine can drill them for you if there is room.

...not enough room unless you welded up the other holes first...i redrilled my 5 on 5 bolt to a car pattern 5 on 43/4..but i wanted to do my 6 bolts cause my tires stick out a bit and the 6 bolt rear is narrower

I had it done with no problems. You have to weld up 2 holes for sure. I just took mine to a local machine shop and had them do it. You also have to have the inside hub machined down so the '72 style 11x2 drums will fit over it as it has a much smaller hole.
They charged me $100 cash to do mine. (Canadian $$$)

When I was going to change to a five lug. None of the machine shop down here would do that they all said it was a safety issue?

welding the holes isn't the problem, and having a shop do the redrilling isn't a problem either..i know several guys who have bridgports and milling machines @ thier personal shops..so no need to worry about "liability" with having a shop do it.
and machining the end should be a problem either. will the '72 11"x2" drums fit over my stock '69 backing plates/shoes? or does that all have to be changed as well?

I didn't have any luck getting local machine shops to do it. Sent mine to Moser Engineering. No problems so far.
