quick 350 question
What are the cons to doing a 0.060 overbore on a 350?

There is always the concern that .060 may go through the wall. Also, that appears to be the max overbore on the engine so it can't be rebored again.

thinner cylinder walls which wont hold up as well to boost...bad with turbo, supercharger...and definatley NO NOS.

Yeah, thinner cylinder walls! Won't stand up to a crazy amount of HP and/or the stuff posted in post #3. Plus I do not think it can be rebored again.

gee,i`ve never had any problem.my 72 is .060 over,my dirt race car is .060 over,i better get new blocks,huh?b/s,never had a problem,and when i do it again,i`ll go the same size.i don`t know what all the hype is about .060 over.how long have they been doing this anyway.i don`t mean to sound rude,but you guys make this sound as if it is something new.go talk to your engine builder,and get the FACTS from them.

Mine is bored out that much and I've heard you can more also but don't quote me on that.
So far I've had zero problems, 400 HP and I drive it like a race car and 180 degrees all day long. |

If you think about it, .060 is about the thickness of 6 human hairs stacked toghther...

I've seen an .080 over 350 on the street daily driver weekends on the strip in a heavy first gen Monte Carlo in tx.
no over heating problems, and it was fast as h*ll. |

On a .060" over,you're only cutting away .030" of the wall. Not much at all.

.030" means the piston is .030" larger in diameter as .060" would mean the piston is .060" larger in diameter - so how is a .060" only cutting .030" of the wall? as far as the 6 human hairs thing....that's how much the over bore is not how thick the wall is afterwards. as longhornman said...there's guys out there with .080 over 350s with no problems....i wouldn't run one but they're out there. nothing wrong with going .060 on a 350 - just don't excpect to bore it again on the next rebuild.
