71-72 disc brakes on 68 suburban
Hi guys,
I have just purchased a 1968 1/2 ton suburban 2wd and am wanting to convert over to the 1971-72 front disc brakes and 5x5 bolt circle. There are a few 71-72 trucks being parted out here in the local paper and I was just wondering what all I would need for the conversion and how hard of a swap it would be. any help or links to answers would be great. thanks in advanced. disc swap
hey,
besides the obvious (rotors/calipers),i'm sure you'll need the spindles, and it's very important to remember to get the proportioning valve from the disc setup and the brake lines from the frame out are bound to be different.if you want it to look right inside you may need to consider the pedal as well depending on automatic versus standard trans. good luck, ron |

71-72 ball joints (upper and lower) 71-72 Spindles, calipers, rotors, wheel bearings, castle nut, pads. 71-72 proportion valve and if you want power you need the 71-72 power brake booster and master cylinder.
Installation is not too hard...my burb used to be a 3/4 ton and now its a 1/2 ton. |

3/4 to 1/2 conversion.
Hey Subluvr,
You said that you converted your 3/4 to a 1/2. I was thinking about doing the same. I thought about rolling a whole front end under it, do you think it woulk be easier to just swap out the components? |

no need to roll the whole front end in and out. Just unbolt the control arms and change over the whole a-arm assembly. The calipers are the same from 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton so no need to remove those. It is litteraly a unbolt to remove...swap...then rebolt the new suspension.
