Question Can you bend a chrome shifter?

I have a chrome 4 speed shifter that I would like to use in my K20 but it would need to be bent a bit different. It is the stock chrome shifter out of an 89 Chevy truck. I know you would normally heat up a shifter to bend it. Can I bend this chrome shifter without screwing up the chrome? If so, how should I do it?

bending it without heat will probably crack the chrome and make it spider web. heating it will turn it blue

I'm in need of doing the same thing... as well as lengthen. I'd imagine it's got some kind of heat treatment to it so the tooth on the end doesn't break off or bend. I am expecting it to require much hot to get it to happen. Then, I guess I'll send it off to get it rechromed or powdercoated... or maybe just Krylon.

Can you make the bend just under the shifter boot? (hmmm, might not have enough room). You might get away with cutting it & rewelding it, or maybe bending it at that location.Other than that Yukon you will run into plating problems. Usually when you heat chrome plating it will turn blue on you (chrome bike headers are a good example) However the make a product called "Blue Stuff" that will bring the chrome finish back again but I've never used it personally.
