Mirror HELP?
Hey guys,
I went down to NADC to see the progress on my truck again and noticed somethink unsettling. I think I'm going to stop going down because I keep seeing stuff that I didn't see before and is costing me more money. I noticed on the passenger side 2 holes and 1 really small hole on the door. Obviously, the holes for the passenger side mirror. There are no holes on the driver's side. My truck came with a peep mirror. I was going to just stick with 1 mirror, my peep mirror. Can anybody tell me what type of mirror my truck had on it so I know which ones to buy. The hole are horizontal, all three are in a row. thanks, Bryan

Depending on your year, the mirrors were round or square, but I believe they all had a three screw mount with backing plateThe mounting holes were not all horizontal.......more like 9, 3, and 7 of a clock face.

That's the thing. They are all horizontal kind of like this
o 0 0 I have a 70 Here's the pic I have, you can barely see the holes. I guess I've never noticed the holes when I've seen my truck. It's too late for them to patch them.

70 was a chainge over year, some were the old style described above with the ong arm...later ones have what some call 'sport mirrors'..look at a 71/72 1/2 ton...that's what yours probably had.
By the way...ghost flames friggen rock!!! |

I dont know if the later sport mirrors will work on yours. They mount lower on the door where it is flat. See pic. the second set are from a 73 and they will mount in the curved area where your holes are. John

So they are the squared ones?
Thanks for the compliment on the flames. I had absolutely nothing to do with them looking that good. I did talk to the kid that did them today. Told me he free handed them-IMPRESSIVE!

I don't have much of an option when it comes to the placement of them since the holes are already there.

I guess my last question if somebody will answer it is do the holes up in the pic above look like they are the ones that go with these square mirrors?

Here is a closer shot of 73 mirror. The 71-72 sport mirrors have a wider base and will not fit in curved area where your holes are. Also the 73's have a chrome head where the 71-72 are stainless. Hope this helps John

This is what I have. I held them far enough back so that they wouldn't interfere with the wing windows. The mounting holes are similar to what's on your door, but yours look farther forward. I bought them at Pep Boys several years ago for something like twelve bucks for the pair.... Yeah I'm cheap

that's kind of my problem that I can't move the holes so I'm kind of screwed. I'm waiting for someone to tell me for sure that the 73's will work.
John gave me the best pic and that's the one that I'm probably going to use.

Why can't they fill the holes? I am sure it would cost a little more, but if you don't want a mirror there it would be worth it.

They told me it would be a setback. And to be honest I've waited since July to get my truck back. I'ts not that I don't want mirrors it's that I'm a cheapa$$ and didn't count on buying them.

Yes, I can see how a set back at this point would suck. It looks like they are getting pretty close. I am sure you will be happy whether you have the mirrors or not.

Yellow I took a measurement if it will help. 6 1/2" from mirror to front edge of door. It looks like the holes in your door should work. The windwing opens fully. Here is a link that shows the mirror. You might find one cheaper elsewhere, but this is the best pic.. By the way nice truck. John

Thanks for the compliment John and thanks for the link. I'm going to check around and see if I can find a better price.
Thanks, Bryan

Ok put the brakes on.......................My mirrors are nounted where your holes are at this time. When I had them mounted in the proper location the passenger side mirror was useless. After changing door I messed around with them until I came up with a location to were you could see out of the passenger side. Mounting them higher up works out a whole lot better. I will post pics of before and after. Oh and I do have the same mirror as in the Mothertruckers ad.
