Turn Signal Switch Connector

How do I get the little connectors out of the big plastic connector on the Turn Signal Switch wires. I have heard there is a special tool but I can't find it. Is there a special way to get these out of there?

I used a small jewlers screwdriver to push the release tabs on the connectors. I recently put in a new turn signal switch for mine and was able to convert the conncetor over as well.

Problem is is that my switch came with the connetor connected to the little wires. So I am gonna test the old one before I do the new one. Otherwise I can't get it through the space on the bottom of the column.

Like Zurbo said, press on the little tangs to release the pins and pull them out the back. Be sure to make a list of how it was connected so you can get it back the same. Also, before you reinsert the pins, lightly pry out on the little tangs so they will click back in the connector shell when you put it back together.
I had to pull mine apart when I redid it too. Use the old wires to pull in a scrap wire as a "pull string" to use to pull the new one in place.
Also, if your new switch has the arc shaped connector and you want to switch to the straight one for your truck, you can insert the pins into whichever connector you want to use, provided you get all the colors right.

I didn't even know that there was a straight one. What would be the purpose of this over the arc?

Wow, you got me there! I guess the changeover on our trucks happened between 71 and 72. Mine's a 71 and it was straight.
Anybody know why?

Yours is the first time I had ever even heard of a straight one. Anyone else?

ALL THE REPLCEMENT TURN SIGNAL SWITCHES THAT I HAVE GOTTEN FROM THE DEALER, HAVE FLAT THE RECEPTICAL. G.M. MAKES AN ADAPTER, THAT IS AVAILABLE FROM THE DEALER, THAT GOES FROM FLAT TO HALF MOON SHAPE FOR 6 OR 8 BUCKS.71 GMC3/4 TON -- YOUR TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WAS NO DOUBT A REPLACED ITEM. NON TILT COLLUBMS ARE PRETTY SIMPLE TO TAKE APART , ALOWING YOU TO REPLACE THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, WITHOUT PULLING IT APART. JUST PULL THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH OUT OF THE TOP OF THE COLLUBM, TAKE OUT THE SHIFTER, & REMOVE THE COLLARS,THREAD THE T/S WIRES THRU THE COLLAR, & REPLACE EVERYTHING. CAKE JOB

I remember now. Sorry, rough week...
When I replaced mine, the half moon connector in the harness was roached. I replaced it with the straight style. My new T/S switch from Napa came with a straight conn on the switch, and an adapter that went from straight to half moon. I used the straight part of the adapter to hack into my harness and it worked fine. The rest of the harness is fuggered up anyway, so I didn't worry about keeping it original.

and here i am trying to keep most things as close to 72 as possible as long as it doesnt cost to awful much and the newer replacement isnt a way better performer.
