speedo cable buzzing

Does anyone know why my speedometer cable started vibrating and buzzing all of a sudden? I downshifted and turned the corner, and it started. I stopped, put it in first, and it stopped. It is totally wierd and doesn't happen often at all.

Mine did that on my 65 Malibu and got worse until I pulled it out of the sleeve wiped it down and lubed it and reinstalled and was fine after that.
