Painting Interior

Hey Folks!!!

I was think of painting my interior using a rattle can. I know the job doesn't come out good for some people, but I'm okay with a rattle can. What do you recomend as far as paint and primer and what not. I have a few holes to fill (not rust holes, but like drilled holes) so i can use body filler ok. I am thinking of filling up the slits that are on the dash (w/out dash pad) Any suggestions for a non-weld job? I hope I can make this a permanent job, as so I can just touch it up when I need to. Actually I plan on doing the entire interior myself, minus the seat. THANKS

-Roger

Body filler will fill the holes just fine, just make sure you get all the paint off and grind it good and clean. You might want to take a peck hammer and beat around the hole in some so you can fill out to the pannel and keep it looking fairly smooth. I'm not sure I know which slits your talking about in the dash. If you just sand down your paint good and smooth, you probably really wouldn't need a primer. Just paint over top of it. Also buy the most expensive paint you can. Cheap ones usually don't spray that long. Probably for the amount of spray paint you'd have to buy you could rent a sprayer. But itz yo life and its yo biz. Good luck dude.

I have done one before with a rattle can and it turned out great. It really didn't take that many cans to do it. I kept the truck for five years as a daily driver and it looked as good when I sold it as the day I did it. As far as the "slits" in the dash, if you are thinking about the ones behind the dash pad I think they are a little big to fill with bondo. Are you thinking of leaveing the dashpad off?

I'm thinking of leaving the dash off. I like the way the dash smooths out. For the slits under the dash pad I was thinkin of useing this like 'Body tape' or something like that. It's metal tape that you can sand to a smooth surface and paint, prime, and bondo.....supposedly. I was thinking of using little patches of this tape over the slits or from inside, behind, and then applying the bondo just so the bondo doesn't end up inside the dash..DIG???Any experience with this guys? let me know.
