'52 3100 WHERE IS THE VIN Number?
Help ... anyone know where the VIN number is supposed to be on a 1952 Chevy 3100? Thanks... rico

the ONLY place it will be is in the driver door jam on a plate that is rivited or screwed to it....joe

There are two possible locations, depending on which state the truck was originally titled in. Some went by the plate on the door frame, others went by the engine serial number, stamped on a pad just aft of the distributor base, if you have the original engine.
Sometimes you can buy a used plate, but putting it on yourself and possessing the proper rivets is a federal felony. Best if you can work something out with your DMV or hiway patrol, most states will attach a new plate for you without much hassle.

Most all these year trucks had screws to hold on the vin plate. But you are correct. Different states did different things. Some titled them by the engine serial number, some by the tag on the door.
