Door handle

Looking for more advice from those much wiser than me... I went to open my door yesterday and when I pushed the button nothing happened. I was able to open it fine from the inside. Appears the handle on the outside needs to be replaced. Any guidance on how I go about this? I assume I need to take the door panel off but from there I'm clueless. Thanks.

most likely, its just the rod that connects the door handle to the latch mechanism on the door.

basically, take off you door panel, remove the lil support brace inside, and you should be able to take a peek and see what's going on... make sure you window is up! you may have to take the latch mechanism out and put a new retaining clip on... i would remove the rod that runs from the latch mechanism to the inside handle just to give you better access.

hope this helps ya out!

BTW, i just put my exterior door handles on last weekend!

Likely a stupid question... I am now unable to open my door using the inside handle as well. I cannot reach a couple of the screws that hold the inner panel because of the door not opening. Any tricks on either removing the panel on a shut door or getting the door open when neither handle is working? And yes I made sure it was not locked... several times haha.

Well after mucho fiddling with the handle I finally got the door to open. Appears the upper rod which hangs down and connects to the latch was somehow hanging the inner door rod. The upper rod's bottom hook which connects to the lever had come lose. Man what a pain getting that back in... lol. That is a tight space for my fat fingers to try and get that thing lined back up and pushed into the hole. I cannot for the life of me see how I could possibly get one of those clip locks onto the end of that rod. Are there any tricks to that? Special tool that might help?

been to that movie!!!

very frustrating... when you get to a place where you can see, its eliminated by your fat fingers getting in there...

as i recall, here was my receipe:

take out the latch assembly and see how that clip works and how it is oriented on the assembly... then, orient the clip so that it allows the rod to go through it... put the latch assembly in, with that clip allowing the rod to go in... push the rod into the clip, then slide the clip down w/ a long screwdriver and wa-la, its done...

hope this helps ya out... it is very tricky... before you wrap up your door and put the panel on, try the latch repeatedly to ensure the rod is actually "in"

WD-40 the latch sounds like it's getting stuck. Matt
