Opinions on exhaust price - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am close to getting exhaust on my K20. I stopped by American Muffler in Wichita today as a number of board members have recommended them.

This system will have 3" pipe from the long tube headers to an X-pipe that I already have made. From the X-pipe it will be 2 1/2" to a set of mufflers that I already have. It will continue to be 2 1/2" over the rear axle and dump somewhere behind the tires. There will be one bend between the passenger collector and the transfer case that may be tricky. I was quoted a very rough estimate of $300 but they have not seen the vehicle yet so nothing more specific.

The last exhaust I had put on the truck was just 2" duals with mufflers and it was $200. I know I am stepping up to bigger pipe so that will be more expensive. Is somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 within the acceptable range?

Seems a little high Mark, since you have the X pipe and mufflers. My guess is they gave a high estimate to cover themselves, since they have not seen the truck. It's tough to estimate things like that accurately when it is not stock items, and the customer is always happier if the price comes in under the estimate.

I just got a new system installed for $400. Included 2.5" pipes all the way and new turbo mufflers.

if i bring the muffs, my guy will do a complete dual set for $150.

That sounds fair to me.

Guys up here in Ontario are paying $700+ to have from the cat back split into duals with flowpros. They are like 60 dollar mufflers.

Since I'm the one that recommend them, I'll chime in. They did mine with dynomax turbo mufflers, no crossover for a total of just under $400 with tax. Sounds like they quoted you on the high side. But they are the best in town for custom work and I got lifetime warranty. I've been doing business there for over 25 years.

when i had mine done i had the flows, they supplied the collectors, did an 'H' pipe and turned downs before the axel.....$150. if they do nice work then i would pay 300. with your truck being lifted you it will be seen more than a stock/lowered truck

Mine like farside 847 was $400 from the header collector to the rear bumper in 2-1/2 pipe with mufflers.Seems to be the going price in central oregon as I checked several shops. HTH:::CB

Hopefully will go to the exhaust shop Tuesday. I'm hoping the price will ended up in the $250.00 range.

When I went to install mufflers in my truck at first I wanted a single exhaust. But the guy at the shop said it would cost me about the same for duals 2 1/2" pipe. He quoted me a price of $250. I already had one muffler, and the shop included the second. They did a good job and they warrantied it for as long as I own my truck.
