I just put in an aftermarket triple gauge set up and have hooked it up so that i have two temp guages (original and aftermarket). I let it warm up and on the original guage the needle is just past the first line,and on the aftermarket guage im reading about 180* ,why i did this is to give some of you guys that are running stock quages an idea of how hot or cold you engine is running......

The trouble is, everyone's guage will read differant. They don't wear the same. While some have never seen the upper side of 80 degrees, others have been in the dusty desert all it's life.

Yes, but I always say that stock guages are just for the entertainment of the driver. I have never seen one that was correct if you checked it against something accurate. At best they come close. LOL

Most will be pretty close. My 70 has a 180 thermostat and reads right on the first line. Makes sense because the original 195 was designed to read right in the middle. You don't want to know the oil pressure... 60 psi is the max so the middle is about 30.

mine always read on first lien when fully warm, but if sit in hot traffic, it wil go a lil past the line, seem good to me in stock form
would like to have voltmeter instead of ammeter however,... too bad arent any voltmeters out there that look close to ours,

Mine's always right on the first line during normal use. Will rise during particularly hot days or hard pulls. It let me know when thermostat was going bad. Started seeing it go nearly to hot range and then suddenly drop. New thermostat fixed it. It's plenty close for me. See no need for aftermarket guages. Thanks for the info on what the actual temp was at low mark. Wish they had marked them with numbers rather than just ranges, but oh well. Like I said, it's close enough for what I need.

it seems most of the original water temp guages here,thats neat,atleast its nice to know they are somewhat accurate hehe
