Question for those who have Z'ed Frame

I haven't read anything about what you guys are doing with the transmission. Are you raising that mount in the rear, or just leaving it angled? Say I do a 3" Z my engine will raise three inches, do you modify the crossmember at the trans, or just leave it, if so do you think that there are any issues with it running with the additional angle?

Thanks Alot

Robert

tubular arms

I did mine 3" and I have to cut the trans tunnel some. I'm using the early classic trans crossmember. Had to redrill holes in the frame. Also the fun job of Clearancing the back of the cab for the driveshaft. Trailing crossmember mods and so much more. My truck is down on the rockers hard, and held up by the license plates.

You need to raise the tranny crossmember! Your drive line angle will change to much, motor won't be level...

Thanks, I am just trying to take EVERYTHING into consideration before I start chopping it up. Sometimes its the little things in the end that add up to ten times more work than you would think, so I am trying to decide my best route.

ive seen some guys on here saying 4" Z is too much and some guys say 4" is just right? whats the minimal amount needed to lay the frame on a 78 blazer? im about to go under the knife myself.

you could also do a 1.5" crossmember section and a 2" Z. thats what I did and works great

thanks for the reply, been spending hours going through old posts before i start cutting my frame up. so i guess the general concesus is that the front needs to go up 3-4" in order to clear the corssmember? whether the combination it be, (1.5" xmem drop + 2" z) or (4" z) or (1.5" xmem drop + custom lcas)?

i used an ECE auto tranny crossmember with my 700r4, flipped it upside down, dropped the center 1&1/4" to match the 4" z i did, and it worked great. Driveline angle was perfect at ride height, just had to watch out when aired out on the cab support at the back of the cab. i also had to make a new tranny tunnel, but why not when the factory ones are soo damn ugly anyway!!! Oh yeah, dont forget when you z, or if you z 4" like i did, using an HEI dizzy you can come into clearance or adjustment problems, so i went ahead and moved the engine/tranny combo ahead 3" using factory bolt holes in the frame and drilling 1 new hole per side in the crossmember, gave me plenty of clearance for the distributor. Still could run an engine drivin fan, but i went with a 95 camaro radiator and electric fans for plenty of clearance and cooling.
