i am going to be taking my front brake calipers off to paint them, any tips or suggestions?

Don't get any brake fluid on them.

Purchase a pair of rebuilts,(or new if you got the bucks) leave plugs in place, wash them with soap and water, dry, tape up boots, prime and paint.

The paint will stick better to clean, rust-free replacements. If money is no object, I'd use POR15 engine enamel (can be brushed on). With proper prep, it would stick great and handle the heat with aplomb.

If money grows on trees, you might look at whether one of the aftermarket brake upgrade suppliers (SSBrakes, Master Power, etc.) offer stock calipers that have gold iridite treatment. Or whatever that metallic plating is called that cast iron accepts. On the tip of my tongue....:p

purchase a pair of rebuilt calipers? there is also a squeeking noise coming from my brakes, should i lightly sand the rotor and brake pad? what else can i do while my calipers are off?

Bendix / Autozone now sells calipers already coated and rebuilt. I don't know if they have them for our trucks or not, haven't had time to check. They are called Bendix Street HP Powder Coated Calipers in red, yellow, black and silver.

From the ad I have seen, they state that they cost $49.88 each with exchange up to $124.88 each. Like I said above I haven't checked to see if they have them for our trucks yet.

Just checked autozones web site and the Powder Coated are not available for our trucks...

Actually, the company could expand their line into our trucks one day. It's still something to keep an eye on.

A rebuilt caliper from NAPA for 20 bucks. You would have to turn the rotor down, sand paper would not be that effective. The squeek could be from the GM warning device that the pads are worn out or that the pads have been overheated and are glazed.

Same as the others plus...

...Use a paint that with stand the elements and heat. VHT is one brand I use. Be careful with the brake lines or you will be buying new ones?
