Steering Stabilizer
I'm thinking about putting a steering stabilizer on my 67 c10. How hard is it? Does it make that much difference? I have 32" tire and no power steering if that helps.

Don't know about a stabilizer, but going to power steering was the best thing I ever did for keeping it on the road. At highway speeds there was a high pucker factor without power (and I had 31 inch tires at the time). After the swap, it was a whole new truck.

Yea I would love to have power steering. It 's a dream of mine... I need to find the parts for it. If you know of any please let me know.

I put a stabilizer on my 71. It was manual steering at the time.. it helped some. But the power setup I have now is much better. The stabilizer kit i bought was around 40 bucks and was easy to put on. I used a 71 power steering gear box, pitman arm and the pump and brackets out an 84 blazer. The pump from my 71 donor was to low and the belt was hard to tighten and got lose often...I cuss alot less now...

Will an older model chevy gearbox and pump work on a 67.

i dont know about the gear box but I removed the valve that the pressure hose screws into from my 71 pump and put it in the 84 pump so I could re-use my (new) hose from the original setup. I can look into the gear box tonight and get back to you.

I did the P/S convertion on my 71 and put a stabilizer on it at the same time. The stabilizer smoothes things out, adds a little bit of resistance. works great.

i think 67 68 4x4 p/s used manual 2wd small shaft box, and 69-up used 2wd castign with larger output shaft than 2wd, if you find a 69-79 p/s 4x4 1/2 3/4 or 1 ton thne snag the box and pitman and draglink to swap to p/s on 68 and older 4x4 1/2 to 1 ton
and just the 69-79 box and arm for swap to p/s on 69-up 67 and most 68 and older used that power assist ram piston linkage steering on p/s equipped trucks, just like 2wd did, |

ok 1963 - 1974 all use the same power steering pump with variations on the reservoir
1975-1979 all use the same power steering pump with variations on the reservoir 1980-2000 all use the same power steering pump with variations on the reservoir 1968-1976 all use the same gear box Those are all small block applications listed above big block was different Last edited by Suicide-D; 06-20-2002 at 09:48 AM. |

If I recall correctly the catalog didnt specify standard or automatic on the gear box. I dont think it would matter either. I didnt look up the pitman arms... I am just getting back into this auto parts thing after 4 years of doing something else and I have forgotten what items are common to each year... I'll get it back in time.

the gearbox will be the same whether it is manual or power steering.
