I remove the keys, which is more than I used to do. Seriously. I'm glad I live in a low-crime area.

Headers and turbo mufflers. I also live in a low crime area, and I guarantee I'd be out of bed so fast if someone tried to get the truck. Besides It's so ugly why anyone would want it is beyond me.

A body shop guy that did my paint and body work suggested removing one wire on the distributor and putting in the cut filter from a cigarette end and then replacing. If someone tries to steal, the truck will not start. Just be careful that you are not under observation when doing this. I have also looked at the battery "key" disconnects. Hope this helps.

i am interested in this topic too,can you install a alaram without power locks?maybe wire it to a door light switch?my truck has either yet,ive thought of disconnecting the battery and locking the hood but that would get old after awile too

12 GAUGE OO will just about clean what was there.
i too am thinking about that. was looking at the newer cars and trucks they have a switch that you have to plug in someting then it will start. the problem is that with that set up you can just crimp the wires and start it.
but if there was a way to install something that needed a certon voltage say 2 volts to make it work then that might be good.

And todays tow trucks are something, they dont even have to get out to drag you away

i use the club to slow them down or look elsewhere , and at night disable the HEI power wire .

my truck had been converted to a floor shift automatic, and you have to wiggle the colum shifter to activate the neutral safety start switch, so you could play with that some. if you have a system inside, you should use screw heads that most thieves don't carry like a torx head. remove the outside hood latch and run a cable inside to open it. the flashing red light in the dash keeps some thieves away, but putting a security system sticker on your window is about 50/50 for effectiveness. you can buy a no wheel no steal kit, so everytime you go somewhere you can take the steering wheel off. you can get a radio with a detachable faceplate, put a cover over your radio so it appears you have none, and locking lugnuts stop some people from taking your rims.

I like kill switches, batt disconnects, and alarm systems (w/remote signal but w/o siren or horn hook up). However, installing a kill switch or alarm sys can all to easily prove ineffective if the hood is not also locked down. It's so easy and cheap to install brackets on the underside of the hood and on the frame rails and then run a chain or thick cable between them with a weatherproof lock on the frame.

Lock both sides to make it doubly tough to open the hood. Use the hood's inner frame for the bracket mount. Try to design the lower lock bracket so as to leave little chain or lock hoop exposure for bolt cutters.

I think doing all these things eliminates 99% of thieves, so to speak. Besides tow trucks thieves, it also might not stop any thieves that just want to break some glass and steal what's inside the interior. Not too much can be done in that case unless an alarm sensor goes off and one is able to respond promply (i.e., with both barrels

).

I have the engine on a stand in the garage and no tires and wheels on it right now. Take your truck apart every once in a while and people will be less likely to steal it.

yea mine has no bed and no eng./tras and i have it sitting in the driveway. anybody that wants a hood could come by and take it because the hinges are off and it's just laying in place. doors are locked though, gotta do that.

I have a little red led light that blinks that is powered by 2 aa batteries. I just set it on the dash. looks like a alarm at night anyway! LOL actually when I see a old beater car with a alarm I wonder what is in the car people would want. but most of the time I think they are must have

My truck is in about 200 pieces right now so im not to worried. Even if you live in a low crime area you still have to do something to prevent theft. We live on an acherage outside the city and we thought that we would never have to worry about theives until we got robbed. An easy way to prevent theft is to pull the spark plug fires off or even the plugs at night and put them back in next time go drive the vehicle.The red blinking light is good for idiot thiefs. If your worried about getting your stero stollen don't have one or get a cheap one. Using uncommon screws won't work most of the time because some guys just use a crobar to pry it out. You could probably put a hidden switch on the ignition switch up underneith the dash.

I only worry when I am out of town, and then I put it in the garage where the grocery getter was. If someone gets while I am paying for gas or something, so be it. When I have gone out of town, I pull the main plug from the dist. to the coil, then lay it back in place but not fully connected. that way everything looks right under there but isnt. My thinking is if I remove it all together they will just use a plug wire.

Again, Low crime area and if we are gone long enough to give someone time to think about it I put it in the garage.

Mine is not currently running and is stowed away in a pole barn behind a New Holland loader. I live in a low crime area, and I've always got my Benelli and my German Shepherd that doesn't like strangers.
