leak between trans & T-case
so, there seems to be a leak from the trans to the t-case, at least that's what i would assume since the t-case was so full of trans fluid it was pouring out the rear output. so i replaced the rear output seal on the t-case and drained it to regular fill mark. my dad thinks trans fluid is ok for the 205. i thought it was supposed to be gear oil.
anyway, now to my question. i read the thread at the bottom of the page about finding np205 oil seals. is there not a seal at the rear of the trans (t250)? is there only a seal between the adapter and the t-case? guess i just need to know what i'm looking at replacing. |

I just got done doing the exact same thing, trans fluid and gear oil were mixing freely because my seals had gone bad.
There is the big rubber doughnut exterior seal that goes between the NP205 and my TH350. However, that just keeps the oil from falling to the ground, it won't prevent stuff from going between the components. The seals you are looking for are 2 identical (I think they were identical?) seals that are on the inside of the adapter. You have to open up the adapter to see them. One of mine practically dissolved in my hand when I removed it. The local dealership had problems trying to cross-reference these seals and getting them ordered, so just a heads up. But people on this board tell me Napa will have them as well as bearing sales stores.

80-90 gear oil,i changed the seals in mine a couple of weeks ago,but mine only had 1 seal in the adaptor,on the transfer case end.maybe they are differant from auto to manual?
just measure the bore diameter where the seal goes in and the shaft size, and that is what you give to the bearing supply store.the size for the t/case adaptor seal is 2 1/4" od,1 3/8" bore, and 3/8" thick. Last edited by k-20; 06-21-2005 at 07:29 AM. |
