4sd to auto

I'm switching my 72 k5 from a 4spd to an automatic. Is the transfer case the same or do I need to find another tansfer case? I'm also installing a 4" lift springs and blocks on it, what do I need to change on the front end?

First thing you need to do is wrap that 4 spd up and send it my way Bernie. I'm really not much help in this area, but I figured I would reply and move it back to the top so some of the experts could help out. Take care buds

I "think" that a 4X4 turbo 350 auto will fit into that transfer case. Can't be a non-four wheel drive tranny. You'll need to install a radiator with the auto tranny cooling lines that go into it. You'll need to remove the flywheel and get a flex plate. What about linkage? Do you have an auto steering column?

If you're putting a 4" lift kit in it, then you'll need longer shocks and maybe a dropped pitman arm. There seems like a couple other things I'm forgetting too. Might need longer brake lines.

dubie.

"First thing you need to do is wrap that 4 spd up and send it my way"

If you want the 4 spd set up it s yours, Although its for a 4x4 setup and I'm not sure if it will work for your application.

batboy,

thanks for the info, most of the parts I need to do a swap I have. I will be looking for a dropped pitman arm, so if you run across a used one or know where to find a new one let me know, thanks

Fast68Chevy,

I counted the splines and it turns out to be a 10 spline output shaft. The sites you posted gave me a lot of info and I think I'm probally better off finding a used 350/np205 to rebuild. Thanks for taking the time to research this for me.

cheers Bernie

It's too bad you aren't closer.......I'd trade you all of your manual parts for all of my automatic parts. I would love to have a 4spd in my Suburban.
