F/S Chevy 1968 Original dog dish caps and wheels
These came of my 1968 Chevy shortbed truck. The previos owner painted the caps and wheels. They have the original tires on them still the truck had 72 thousand original miles when I got it. The caps have a couple of small dings.I'm asking $100 for all four. Must me picked up locally.

There were both painted and polished caps for the '67's and '68's.
Were these originally polished stainless caps or were they painted from the factory and your previous owner did a touch up?

I would say they came painted from the factory.

My '68 brochure shows painted and chrome as catseye66 says. I am wondering if they are both stainless...and the CST was just polished? That would mean that these could be stripped and polished just like CST caps.
GABE, If you could test them with a magnet on the bowtie (they are made in two parts and the base section is mild steel and magnetic) it will answer one of the great hubcap mysteries of all times! If the top (bowtie section) is non-magnetic it will be painted stainless and can be polished like the CST caps that everyone is looking for! Thanks

Also, GABE, you might PM 69oldie about these, I haven't seen him around the last couple days but he has been looking for a set for awhile, I'm not sure if he wants painted or stainless (the brochure called them chrome, like Mike said but the shiny ones for the CSTs are stainless steel).

I put a magnet to the chevy bowtie and it stuck to it. I guess these are the all steel one.

Those hubcaps wouldn't work on my 68...those are for a 1/2 tons. They clip on the wheel differently. But thanks for thinking of me!
On that "chrome / stainless steel question".....I have never seen a "stainless" version. I looked through my pile of old 67-68 3/4 ton caps (6 of....NONE show quality!!)) and all were chromed!. Maybe in Calif. stainless wasn't offered....only painted or chrome?! If stainless does exist.....those have got to be VERY rare!!! especially in N.O.S.!! Just my 2 cents... Jim "69oldie"
