Ralley Wheel bolt patterns ?

I just converted my 69 1/2 ton 6 lug to a 5 lug using 72 1/2 ton parts. It has a bolt pattern of 4 3/4". Recently, I was asking the bolt pattern for some 72 truck ralleys I was wanting to purchase and was told the bolt pattern was 5" and that the 4 3/4" was the pattern for cars of that year. Is that true? Are truck ralleys available at the 4 3/4" pattern?

Thanks in advance!!!

Whew, that's the first I've heard of the 4 3/4" pattern being on 71-72's as far as I know those 5 lug years are 5" bolt pattern. Are your rear axles the same 4 3/4" pattern? or are the fronts just 4 3/4? I don't know but maybe you have the GM car rotors up front with 4 3/4" pattern.

Something doesn't sound right. I'd be interested in your configuration front/rear.

Some of the conversion "KITS" that are offered from Chevy Duty & other bigger retailers ARE in fact the 4-3/4" car pattern (I think that is the S-10 pattern, also...correct me if I am wrong). It is usually worded so that you don't notice it without reading every single word of the listing.

This is taken directly from Chevy Duty's website:

Our 5-lug brake kit not only upgrades your brakes, but swaps the factory 6-lug pattern to the common 5 on 4-3/4" lug pattern. This kit is complete, bolts onto the stock spindle, and does not use stock hubs. Includes tapered roller bearing swap kit, hoses, master cylinder, booster and proportioning valve. (*No Free Shipping-These kits are heavy-Shipping Costs depend on your delivery area) *Note: This item is drop shipped from the manufacturer and could take 2-4 weeks for delivery.

I don't think the 71-72 rallies were available in the 4 3/4' pattern. Maybe later years for trucks, S-10's and such.

I've got 6, 8 inch corvette ralleys (5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern). $150 + shipping.

Thanks for the info.

It is funny, I was told that the parts ( complete rear axle and front crossmember) where from a 72 chevy truck. Everything bolted on fine so I could have front power disk brakes and convert everything to matching 5 lug. Front/rear are both 4 3/4".

HART_ROB - was it normal for the corvette ralleys to be 4 3/4"?

ALL full size trucks are 5 on 5" bolt pattern from '71 to '98. Almost all GM cars were 5 on 4 3/4". Some of the larger cars like Impalas and some Cadillacs also used the 5 on 5" truck pattern.

I would double check with the person you bought the parts from. Something doesn't sound right.

I've always heard that car brakes weren't sufficient for trucks. They are too small.

If you have the trailing arm setup then it HAS to be 5 on 5... If it is leaf springs you MAY have '70's era G10 Chevy van parts. I know most of the stuff from the vans will bolt in and some (not all) of the vans had 5 on 4.75.

I'd ask the guy I bought the stuff from some hard questions, I think there's some confusion as to what you have...

Good luck, Rg

69 Short,

Corvette, Camaro, Nova and Chevelle all were 4 3/4. Difference was width of wheels, most Corvettes had 8 inch.

if you haven't done so i'd suggest B-4 buying rims that you take a ruler and measure to make sure of your bolt circle diameter/if you have a summit cataloge they have a chart on the proper way to measure a bolt circle

Thanks again for all of the info.

I have contacted the seller and hope to get some kind of verification/explanation soon.

Another thing that is weird is that I have put new brake components on the rear, asking for 72 brake parts at the auto parts store, and the new drums fit the pattern perfectly. Go figure.

Here's a drawing of both patterns. The top is a 5'' pattern if you measure alternate bolts from center of studs it will measure about 4.75".

A 4.75" pattern will measure about 4.5" from the center of alternating studs.

The 5" or 4.75" refers to a bolt circle intersecting the axis of all the studs (see the phantom line which represents bolt circle)

I'd bet you have the 5" pattern...
