I have a dumb question ...

I have a dumb question ... or at least one that highlights my ignorance... lol

I do not have leafsprings. What is my rear suspension called?

When you look under the rear of the truck... several inches in front of the rear axle....do you see a wound up coil? Similar to that is on the front?

If so...NO....you have a coil spring rear with trailing arms.

If there are no coils (and no AIRBAGS!), then you have a leaf spring rear end.

The coils are obvious. I wonder why they call them trailing arms since they go forward from the axle. lol

Until I crawled under the thing I didn't realize that pu trucks (stock, of course) came with anything other than leafsprings.

60 - 72 had coils. GM had to put the set up under a stock vehicle in order to use them on the race track (stock car maybe?). So they chose the trucks since they could package the real long arms with no hassles.

and don't forget it could have been converted to coilover shocks though I doubt it.
