NV 4500 tranny swap
Hey, anybody ever done this? It seems like a good idea. I have a 456 rear end spinning 35s. The bigger tires helped some but I still need an overdrive. I've heard that the dodge version of this tranny might work better because of linkage location. Also I think its a hydraulic clutch. How do you approach that?

I'll be doing one next year but using a 94 GM 4x4 NV tranny, it's a better match for the transfer setup I'm planning. The is a thread in the FAQ section that covers this. Also been hearing/reading bad things about Dodge's 5th gear problem. Are you runnig a 4x4 too?

Yeah Boone, I'll keep the np205. I just want something to drive up to the mountains in the winter- without screaming at 50mph. How are you getting your tranny? Junkyard? and how much?
I'll check out the FAQ. Thanks.

I found one in a remote junkyard in South-western Idaho for 750. Best place is the small farm towns where they don't do much 4x4-ing Here is another place to look for one:
http://www.car-part.com/ The Bellhouse from Advanced adapters and the tranny-transfer adapter are going to be costly but I figure they will be worth it in the long run. Lower RPM, less engine strain and better gas mileage. I drive a 5sp Jeep Rubicon most of the time, but in my truck I'm always wanting that next gear. http://www.off-road.com/products/sho...adapt-show.htm I'm building on a budget, this years mods are power steering and disk front 44 with power brakes. The member that built the setup that went into ryanroo's truck is "kwmech" |
