temperature guage

What are obvious reasons why temp. gage sits in off position. It it hooked to senor on block with green wire headed towards firewall and into a harness.

Any common things to look for? (all other gauges work)

Not totally sure what you are asking for, but is it going all the way too hot and staying there? or is it not moving at all? Randy

Not moving at all

Randy;

This one just sits in cold or off position and never moves up when warm. Appears like it isn't even connected. I was wondering if there are common symptoms that might cause this like gauge dying or ? Or other question would be how should I go about trouble shooting it?

The sender might be bad. Try grounding the wire from the sender and turn the key on and see if it goes all the way to hot.

strange missing posts

I just got a notification in my email that said the following post waw made but it doesn't show up on boards for me. This also happened a few days ago.

I went out to my truck and the engine is at operating temp and I was getting 3.8 vdc across the terminals connected to the printed circuit. You could check that to see if you are getting power to the gauge first. I'm not sure if the voltage measurement stays the same with a different engine temp, but the resistor on the back of the gauge should have about .072-.076 ohms of resistance, not sure on the scale so might be off a decimal or two Make sure the key is off when you check the gauge for resistance.
