Help! Tranny lines required?
Hey, I've got a 700r4 now installed in my truck and just finishing hooking everything up. Right now, it is in a parking lot getting ready to have a new exhaust installed. My problem is, the truck runs but the tranny is definitely not close to being "completely" installed - no TV cable no TCC lockup, and NO COOLER LINES.
My dilema is that the exhaust shop needs to have the truck able to move under it's own power (one man shop, and constantly moves around his client's cars). I am wondering since I have the driveline done and everything else, if I fill it full of fluid just enough to move around a parking lot, is the fluid going to just leak like crazy with no cooler lines hooked up to it? I'm kind of in a crunch because the truck is 20 miles away at the exhaust shop, otherwise I would go hookup the lines first and not worry about it. But as it stands, if I can just do something temporary to get exhaust while it's there, I'll take it home and finish the tranny install. Last edited by Jakes-66-K10; 07-15-2005 at 02:38 PM. |

Just run down to the ace hardware & get some brass plugs for the holes.
OR BETTER YET, Go to the parts house, get two 6" lengths of steel brake line that has the right size fittings on them to match the holes in tranny. Install them, then jump a rubber hose between them....basically deleting the actual "cooler" part of the loop. That will be good enough for moving it around the parking lot. Just don't try running up to the quickie-mart.

I can only offer the suggestion of buying brass fittings and tranny fluid HOSE. Run it port to port. Ensure the guy drives it minimal. Thought you had to have the tv hooked up...

What I have been told, is that the truck will shift HARD but drive with no TV cable. Again, hoping this is the case just to move it around a parking lot.

It shouldnt come out of first with the tv unhooked until you wind it way way out. It will destroy the tranny if you drive it this way. Should be ok in a parking lot though at no more than walking speed.

You might have a major fluid leak out the tv cable hole if there's nothing in it.

i drove mine in and out of my shop with no tv cable hooked up. i just pluged the hole cuz i didnt have my new cable yet cuz it was on order.

Well, mission accomplished. Did as you guys suggested, and just looped the two fittings together. Didn't even leak (I do have a TV cable installed to tranny, but not hooked up to carb). Anyways, it's getting exhaust installed now. Thanks a ton for everyone's help!
