Brakelines- anyone have experience with Fine Lines stuff?
Howdy;
getting ready to buy new brake lines, reproduction style, for my '67 SWB with pwr 4 wheel drums. Has anyone purchased from Fine Lines? I had bought a set from another supplier through a catalog company, and when I checked them over, found that they would need many adaptors to intall on my truck; tubes from the master cylinder to the distribution block for the front brakes, and from the distribution block down and across to the front to rear tubing for the rear brakes were NOT correctly terminated, the fittings on those were the wrong sizes for the master cylinder and distribution block. Yes, this is a factory installed power brake set up. Called the manufacturer, and got the run around; said I needed to handle it through the vendor. I replied that if I buy THEIR product, THEY will be servicing it. Fella didn't want to talk about it, so I am shopping their competitor, that being Fine Lines. Any input is appreciated. I'm not out to flame anyone here; you will note I haven't ID'd the less than helpful ( in my case) company. Thanks for any help. cowboy33713 |

Howdy;
Thanks for the input; they do list a bunch of applications,(I'm going to be nice here),they DO have a good looking website .Their stainless parking brake cables look promising. I did call Fine Lines, and related my problem with fitment on the competitor's product, AFTER I had placed my order with Fine Lines; in a short time it became apparent to me that I was talking to one of the company's principals, and not just some fella answering the phone, and he seemed to have a true interest in getting it right for the customer, not just getting it close enough for the customer to cobble it together with a bunch of adaptors. He related a thing or two that his college professors illustrated in lecture, and that if the consumer group for a given product is small enough, MOST companies will not go to the extra expense of pleasing that small group, instead taking care of the "bread and butter" customer group (in this case, more customers are likely to have a '69-72, than a '67, and to further illustrate, more will have a post 1970 than a 1967.Therefore, if the fella with the '67 has a complaint, it won't hurt business, because he is the small part of their market, and the satisfied owners of later trucks won't care.) He assured me that his product may be more expensive ( actually, buying direct saved me some money), because his company takes more care on the product for the smaller customer group, and if I should have any difficulty with his product, I should call again. Oh, Fine Lines INCLUDES the union fittings that connect the hardlines together when you buy a full set of tubes; the competitor's set did not, at least not as supplied via the vendor I bought ( and returned ) their "kit" to (set arrived apparently as packaged by the competitor, and I had no reason to believe anything had been removed). The set from FineLines should arrive next week. cowboy33713 |

Sorry, friend. To avoid stepping on toes, I won't say who here. For me to do so may start a whirlwind attack by "convict the complainer" types. Besides, without doing a map search, I am unsure how near you live to the company you name,or any other. For all I know, you may work in the industry! No sense in ruffling feathers without need. As my thread title implied, my purpose here was to see if anybody on the board had experience with Fine Lines, nothing more. Just inquiring. Inlinetube is one of the companies I am looking at using for my project, nothing more. This is what these forums are all about IMO, sharing info and experiences... |

Howdy,again.
67c10step , I stand by my words. You could've tried a P.M. to me. After all, my experience may have been the isolated case of someone having a bad day, and I won't flame someone on this site for that,if that's what it was. I somehow imagine this board's Moderators would agree with me on that. As far as sharing info,etc., IMHO I'm doing just that publishing my experience with Fine Lines. Look for more objective input when the tubing set from them arrives. cowboy33713 |

Howdy;
just an update on the 67 Stainless brakelines project for Fine LInes; have not arrived yet. A call to FineLines and was advised the set was to ship out today, should be here by Friday ( from Ohio to west central FLA ). They had to bend up at least part of the set for my 67 2wd SWB. cowboy33713 |

Howdy:
Have an update on my order through FineLines for a complete set of stainless brake lines for my '67 2wd SWB 1/2ton, pwr drum. The set arrived yesterday, and first impression is that it was worth the wait. Lines are correctly terminated for my application. Set includes a union and a T block, and they sent both possible versions of one of the tubes, as two different types appeared on this truck as the factory transitioned from one type to the other. NO adaptors will be required, I will NOT need to find and buy a Union for the front to rear (long) tube. The set really IS complete. Will start on the installation today; hope the weather holds (here in FLA during the summer it rains at least a little, some times a lot, every day in a normal summer). Will update. cowboy33713 |

Howdy,again;
The FineLines brake line kit went on with minimal adjustment required. Everthing was correctly terminated, and correct length. Will keep this firm in mind for the next time I need to do this. cowboy33713 |
