Where did you find your truck?

Mine came to me....

I was working on my car out in the front yard and a guy ran out of gas and pulled into my driveway.....
He asked to use the phone to call a friend to bring him some gas.

He seemed nice and asked very politely so I let him use my phone.

While were were waiting on his friend he was asking me some questions about my camaro and such and it went into cars that we like and so on.

While we were talking he said he had a 68 SWB that he was thinking about selling.

I got the # of the guy and went to see the truck the next day and ended up buying it for $500.00. after talking him down from 1,000$

Funny thing was the day before he showed up I was just talking about getting a 67-72 SWB

It needs work but hey its a 68 CST for 500

Found mine for sale on the bulletin board at the Bank while I was withdrawing money. Actually, my wife is the one that found it anf told me about it. I took it for a ride and had to have it. The kid wanted $1500 for it but after a day or so, he called me back and said he would take my offer of $1200.

I've been looking on trips to Nebraska for a couple of years, found a lot of old farm trucks, not too badly beat up or rusted out, but almost all of them had 4 speeds, or no ps, or no ac. Finally gave up, then mentioned it to my family in Nebraska that I wanted to find a 69 Charger since I couldn't find a decent '71 with the options I wanted. Within 2 weeks had 3 to choose from, one was more rust than metal, 1 had a blown 350, and 1 wasn't too bad. The only problem is that now I get calls from my family members saying they found another one, and do I want it? I guess when it rains, it pours!

mine was pretty easy. My dad used it as his work truck for construction for 30 years and decided to retire the truck. It ran but the body was rusted. I said I would take it for free.

My dad bought it and took all the excellent body parts off of it and was taking the frame and engine to the scrap yard. Luckily I saved it. But he did tell me I was on my own finding a new body.......

ever since i was like 12 i would point out 67-72s to my dad and tell him i wanted one. i didnt have a clue what years they were or anything. i just liked the body style. when i turned 14 my dad asked if i wanted a toolbox for my bday. i said i wanted one of those old pickups to fix up. we drove around, saw my 69 gmc in a grove of trees. pulled in, and got it for 300 bucks. man that was fun. 2 years later and its still not close to bein done. i had planned on it taking about 6 months and 1000 bucks. HA . man. lets hear some more

When I started looking I did the ol' newspaper scouring then got smart and started checking the newspaper's internet classified listings. I was the first caller, first and only test driver - we test drove it to the bank to get him a cashier's check!

Prescott Valley, AZ. It was in the Auto Trader for about a month (this was just before Burbs started becoming popular) Since it was 100 miles from my house I put of calling on it. When I finally called, I figured it was going to be sold, but it wasn't. The guy said since nobody wanted, my brother is driving it and he might buy it. But he said let me find out. He called me back and said it was for sale if I wanted to come see it. I went up took it for a drive and knew I wanted it. He was asking $1300, I offered $1100 and it was mine! A year later I find out it is a 50th Aniversary Edition! It is my favorite vehicle!

I always liked the 69/70's and my first was a 4 wheel drive '69 Blazer that a friend told me about. It was of all places, on a Ford dealers lot. The year was 1988 and guess what...They wanted $1988 for it. (cute) After some careful dealing, I got it for $1600. Eventually sold it for beer money. I couldn't afford to drive it. (and go to the bars-what can I say, I was young-should have kept it and got rid of the beer habit)

1969 Stepside- I was out cruising my '72 Chevelle one morning and saw it sitting on the main street in a town near me with for sale signs on it. Stopped and heard it run. Had it in my driveway within the hour! $1,000 dollars and no brakes but I still got a deal. (although some may have argued that point) This truck is my daily driver and best friend for sure. If I live to be 90, I'll still be driving this truck. (if they still make gasoline then)

1971 Cheyenne LWB-I was in my yard washing my '69 Chevelle when the owner stopped and asked if I wanted to buy a parts truck. (he was driving his new ride, a used Jeep pickup) He wanted $100 but all I had was $50. He said ok so I bought it sight unseen. About an hour later, he pulled in with a inspected and very buildable truck! After fixing a few misplaced plug wires and adjusting the timing with a new set of points, she purrs like a kitten. (he sold it mainly because it was running lousy) He wasn't too happy when he heard what was wrong with it. I've decided to keep this one in my collection as well. It's Chevy heaven around my yard!

Back in the 60's &70's, i used to go deer hunting and fishing in Utah with a guy and his father-in-law. They both drove GM's; I drove a 4 letter word 4X. My buddy's father-in-law bought this sh## green 72 Chevy 3/4 brand new and put a camper on it. Well he drove that truck for years and took very good care of it.

About 5 years ago he got too old to drive and i bought the truck. It had 108,000 miles on it and had had a brand new 350 from GM put in it at about 103. It now has 170k+ on it. I just got that beautiful metallic mist green paint redone, new flooring, new dash, armrests and windshield. I got rid of the 16.5's a few years ago and put nice wheels and tires on it.

I have a 1971 Alaskan, 10' cabover camper and, when loaded, it's a real head turner. I drive it to Baja fishing regularly. It doesn't have to be smogged. I reckon I'll keep this truck the rest of my life. My two sons are already fighting over it. Jimmy

I got mine from my brother in law. He used to do a lot of trucks when he was single and happy. This '69 short stepside was rust free and ran when he brought it home. He took it apart and bought about all of the parts needed to restore it including rubber, bed wood kit, interior, ect. After he got married this project, along with everything else he liked to do came to a screaching halt. (Well except that. He had 3 kids pretty fast).

All of his other cars and trucks ended up in the front yard for sale. The only thing that saved this one was that it was completely blown apart. Several years passed and one day, out of the blue, he offered it to me for $1500. He had twice that in new parts alone. I wrote a check fast. I wasn't looking for another project but I have always liked '67-'72 trucks.

Bought mine from my uncle, who bought it brand new. Was looking for a shortbed or blazer, but just couldn't pass up keeping his truck in the family.

Found mine in a cow pasture. I stoped and asked if it was for sale and the guy told me it belonged to his dad. He said his dad bought it in 1972. Well after talking for about an hour he told me he would take $1500 for it and not a penny less.

Found my '69 sitting along side the road for sale. I was 14 at the time and just had to have it. The guy was asking $1200 and we got him down to $900. (should have been $90 if we'd known all the things that were wrong with it! caveat emptor.....)

The '67 was found under about 3 feet of snow just rotting away in the junkyard. I asked the guy what he wanted for just the bed and frame.....$100.

A few months later, after the snow melted, I went back and asked how much for the whole thing? $150. Why the heck not, eh?

You can ALWAYS use another 67-72, right? (at least that's what the voices in my head tell me:p )

Found mine in autotrader. Had been looking for a long time and seen that same truck for a while. Looked odd because only half the trim was on it (Front only). Finally called on it and drove and looked. The thing was extremly dirty, the hood looked black (it's a green truck), probobly hadn't ever been washed. Knew before hand that it had p/s and p/b with the 350. The speedometer wasn't working and I noticed that the odometer had only 63k on it. He was the son of the original owner who had recently died and he said that his dad had been working on it when he died and since then the speedometer wasn't working. Bought it and drove it home. That truck drives better than *any* vehicle I've ever driven before, new or old. Even better than my brother's '72 cheyenne with 40k miles. Speedometer wasn't working because the guy had unhooked it from the top to get to dash lights apparently! Gas guage wasn't working because the sender didn't have an arm or anything on it... and wasn't actually secured into the tank... He wanted $1450 and we got it for $1200. Right now it needs a tune up, some vacuum leaks I believe and some new plugs and points adjusted probobly (havn't seen it in a while as I havn't been home for a few months). It sure did take forever to find that truck though. My dad found the '72 through work, it never actually made it to the open market.

A friend of mine in Califoria who knew that I was looking for a swb told me of this one. I'd had one in the early 80's, and really wanted another. The truck hadn't been on the road in 9 years. The fenders, grille, and hood were sitting in the bed which was sitting beside the chassis. What a mess. The guy wanted $750, but I haggled him down to five hundred. I towed it home that weekend.

Right here on the board. I was getting very discouraged working on my '72 GMC C2500 (my first 67-72) and finding lots of rust. I decided to make it a solid, dependable runner but it would never be anything but a beater. Then bbs1965 advertised a highly-optioned '67 C20 for sale with low miles and almost no rust. I inquired but he had decided not to sell. When he posted it for sale again a few months later I was at is doorstep, cash in hand before he could think twice. Later, he did think twice and has told me several times how he regrets selling it. Sorry to make you relive that episode, Shane, but what can I say? I knew that one was what I wanted. IT worked out pretty well because I just took all the new parts I bought for the '72 GMC and put them on the '67; hardly any money wasted in abandoning that project.

Bought mine off my friend, because he was moving to the next province. He really didn't want to sell the truck, but couldn't take it with him, as he had to move his family, and their belongings ASAP in time to start a new job. He was selling it for $1000, but he sold it to me for $650, because I helped him with his computer so many times. Funny thing was, him and his family moved back here about 5 months later, as they missed the the city, missed all the relatives.....AND NOW HE HAS TO WATCH ME CRUISE BY IN THE TRUCK HE NEVER WANTED TO SELL!!!! hahahahaha

His one boy recognizes "dad's" truck everytime I drive over. My friend keeps asking me how the truck is, like it was a third son!

Well...this is for him: :p hahaha

The guys wife told him he HAD to try and sell it. So he put a high price tag on it hoping it would not sell. Well I talked to the wife with cash in hand, DOH, I bet he hates me. LOL
