I perfer the chrome rear bumper be it a step or standard chrome. But that is just me. Rollpans look good but I just like a nice bumper on my truck.

The trend seems to be a blazer/van/burb bumper. I'm sure some trucks also c ame with standard bumpers. I'd love to dump my step bumper, I just haven't had much luck getting one off at a j-yard.

I too prefer the oem bumpers on these trucks. To me roll pans don't look right on the '73 to '87's. Looks like sumthins missing. On the other hand i prefer them on the '88 + trucks, they look much better. I know alot of people don't like how they stick out so far on the back, but like i, and many others have done just relocate the bumper forward some and rebolt to the frame. It looks even better imo. Also the bumpers hang lower than roll pans, thus making it more even with the rockers of the truck.

Re: 73-87 Shortwide rear bumpers?

I'm in the same boat right now. Hey, what are the differences in rear brackets for 73-80 and 81-87?? I can't find a bracket kit for and 85, but they have them for the 70's trucks. Why are they different if the frame is the same and the bumper is the same??? I don't get it.

I have seen the 90's rubber-top step bumpers on the squares instead of the all-steel step. I like that better. It's smoother but still functional.

The bumpers aren't the same... two different stamping styles, and the 73-80 doesn't curve under/inwards at the bottom as much as the 81-up...

Re: 73-87 Shortwide rear bumpers?

If you have trouble finding a decent '73-'80 rear sport bumper you can do what I did. I picked up a good '78 and up van bumper and made my own brackets. I was able to tuck it up nice and close too.
