I NEED HELP PLEASE basis one o one I hope

I need to know what all wires hook up to the starter for my 350. batery cable on the big starter post yes, but what else goes where and how many total wires go to the starter on my v8,, I know just bear with me and help me out. the dizzy s a hei and the altenator has the voltage regultor built into the altenator. the battery is very new, 12 volts showing with a volt meter. when the motor is running the battery shows 14.5 volts with the volt meter. the altenator I had checked at advance auto tonight they told me its showing 60 amps to the battery. but the guge in the dash shows 8 volts, and for some wild reason the choke light on the dash is on now. I put new fusable links onnthe wires going to the starter tonight, no change. everyone maybe yea I stress maybe I have a wrong wire on the wrong post on the starter or the selinoid I dont know, please some input to ease my mind what all hooks up to what on the starter and the selinoid for I can get this fixed right, 3 days ago I put a new starter on and now after this new starter i see the choke light on and the volt meter in the dash reads only 8 volts please spell it out for me

With the HEI there is only one other wire required. It comes through the neutral safety switch on trucks with an automatic. It is propably purple in color and a 14 AWG in size.

ok I am realy confused right now, yes i forgot to metion the truck is an automatic transmission. um are you saying the 14 gauge wire that you mentioned , is this conect to the selinoid or the bigger post of the starter itself?
holy cow to the starter and the solinoid there is a total of 4 wires on my truck and the battery cable wire.. holy smokes what have I GOT

connect it to the solenoid. Non HEI had a second wire (yellow) that went up to the coil for a boost of 12 volts while turning over the engine. The purple wire is the only wire that should be connecting to your solenoid with the exception of the positive cable that is straight from the battery.

and thats it nothing else? I mean the battery cable and the 14 gauge purple wire?/// thats all should be hooked to the starter

That is correct.
The purple one goes to the S terminal on the solonoid

Someone has modified your wiring a good bit then. These trucks didn't have fusible links at the starter. Only later models had them there.
