Speedo Problems - TH350

Well, i'm in the process now of working the bugs out of my project... the first thing is my speedo... it didn't work on my maiden voyage... so i disconnected the cable and put a drilll on it.... nothing... so i took out the gauge and the cable and got it on the bench... for some reason the gauge was bad, so i put another on the cable, it worked, so i put that assembly back in.... test drive, no speedo... i pulled off and even checked that i put the cable up in the gauge... still nothing...

so, i'm guessing that the problem lies in the transmission.... any tips ? suggestions?

To check it in the truck, unhook the speedo cable from the tailhousing and spin it there while hooked up to the speedo and see. It it works there, it for sure is the speedo gear in the trans. OR you can just pull the gear out and see.

Although this is a 700R4, it is generally the same procedure:

You can see pics of what the parts look like in my post in this thread. Mine is a TH350C, though I doubt it is much different.

UPDATE:

well, my truck has a 2 piece cable. i pulled BOTH pieces this time, and the piece out of the tail shaft... hooked it all together... everything seemed to work well - it all spun togehter... reinstall... nothing! so, i think i'm going to get a 1 piece cable... i'm just not convinced that its all together inside once its together... if that makes sense... the inners of the cables move in and out too easily...

any thoughts?
