Gas Gauge Trouble Shooting
allright guys i know this question has been asked alot but please bear with me because i forget. My gas gauge reads about a quarter of a tank, and when i go ahead and remove the wire from the sending unit . the gauge goes past full. I put it back on and it goes back to the same spot. What could be causing the gauge not to move with the wire hooked up.

the behavior you describe when you pull the sender wire is normal....how much fuel is in the tank now?..... if it's less than 1/4 then your float is stuck... if it's more than 1/4 then your float could either be stuck or it sprung a leak and can only raise enough for the 1/4 reading.... pull the sender outa the tank and have a look.

The first place to look is under the chrome piece that goes under the door. If you have rust in the rocker it will short out there. GOOD LUCK
