Stupid question

I feel stupid asking this, but I need to know. How on earth do you get the light switch rod out? I tried everything possible, and I don't want to just yank it hard and break something (experience tells me not to), the chassis manual is real helpful and says "remove it". I would appreciate any help. The reason I am taking it out is because I have no speedometer needle and was going to install one. The former owner unscrewed the speedo cable from behind and so I screwed it back in and it worked, it just chirped. So I did what he should have done, grease the cable. Works fine now, just no needle. Thanks

there's a button on top of the switch, work your hand up behind the dash and push the button down while pulling the knob out....

I found it but when I push down on it and pull out nothing happens, the lights just go on as usual. Do you have to push like really hard or what?

A lot of them you have to pull the lights into the parklight position (one click out) THEN push the button.
Good Luck.
