Need to buy a under bed tank setup for a 68 shortbed. I have looked at LMC and brothers kits. Anyone have any experience with either of these? Are there down sides to any of these kits? Plannining on a side fill through the marker light.

The only other down side that I can think of is that you have to knotch the second from the rear bed cross sill for the tank to fit. Not realy a down side if you know that you have to do it befor you start the conversion.... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Not the same application, but I put an 87-91 K5 Blazer tank (31 gal) under the back of my shortbox crewcab.

I would suspect a '68 has a very similar axle/bumper dimension. IIRC, those trucks have both shocks pointing forward, so you won't have clearnce issues (unlike mine where one shock pointed backward). Here's the tank dimensions:

31-gal: 28 3/4" x 28 1/8" x 12 3/4"
25-gal: 28 3/4" x 28 1/8" x 10 3/4"

I have two step sides 1968. The fuel tanks were installed when I bought the pick ups. One is a marine type fuel tank mounted in the Bed . Looks like Ugly. The other is in under the bed. Is a plastic fuel cell . Has a big hole cut in the bed to fill the tank. Not prefered either. So have ordered a sheet of Metal to fabricate a better set up. Not much on engineering but ,am thinking that a filler neck can be installed to where the tank can be filled from an opening through the rear lower bed panel. some where left or right of the Lic. plate. This is an idea I have and may not go! Good luck with your search .

I like my poly blazer tank i bought from Wes.. Id say the only downside is the filler but sounds like you got a good plan for that. I wish I had side marker lights or I'd of done that too.

Go witha poly tank from wes or if you are looking for something really nice boardmember fuelcellguy has some really killer tanks..

I just did a blazer tank swap for the fuel injection TPI and I would spend the money on a proper tank from someone like fuelcellguy. The blazer tank was made for a blazer and not a truck. Quite a bit of fooling around to do.

Look on the trucks tv web site the one they put in copper head is a really nice tank but I think it is about 500-600 bucks but it sure looks good
