Question for out of U.S.r's (KPH)
I have been speaking with some folks across the pond.
They drive in Kilometers and we drive in Miles. With a new dash overlay, a person could change the speedo to show KPH in relation to MPH. Or show KPH only. However, my thinking says that even though the speed shows KPH, the odometer will register miles since both are controled by a single speedo cable. Does anyone know anything about how to convert a dash to KPH so that the speedo and odo read alike? I would guess that there might be a transmission speedo gear change that would do this since it would change the cable rotations and change everything down line from that. An overlay would show the correct speed for KPH but at annual inspection time or however they do it, the mileage would still be in miles. Or was there ever a dash for these trucks made for export that would have the correct components to be KPH? Canada maybe?

They didn't swap over to the metric system in the trucks up here until something like 78, or 79. I know my 76 was still in miles on the speedo.
However, while extremely rare, I know that there were a few km/h speedometer clusters made for the 67-72 trucks. My question is this -- Could a guy get a 73-87 speedometer, swap face plates with the 67-72 speedo, and have it re-calibrated for a km/h overlay? Would the odometer still match up to the hole in the face plate? Other question is if a guy could just buy a new set of gears for the odometer, and swap them in instead?

Buy a geared adapter and with the correct ratio you will get both KPH on the speedo and KM's on the odometer. The limitation will be that the largest MPH number on one of our speedo's is not very fast in KPH. Trucks exported to Europe should have all of the speedo and lens parts to make a 100% metric speedo. Personally I just multiply everthing in my head by 1.6 and it's close enough. Use 0.6 going the other way. 50kph = approx 30 mph, 60 = 40, 80 = 50, 90 = 55, 100 = 60, and so on.
