Oil Pressure
Just put in a new MSD distributor and now the oil pressure gauge reads zero unless the engine is wound up to 4,000 the the needle will come off of the post. Everything mated up just fine with the distributor and the oil pump. the sender for the pressure gauge is right behind the intake manifold on the block. What's going on?

Are your valves tapping when the pressure is 0? If so the oil pump shaft dislodged. If the valves don't tap I guessing the oil pressure guage wire (aftermarket) or oil tubing is bent pinched or broken.

so you are running a electric oil press guage? my first step would be to make sure you actually do have oil pressure.easist was is pull of v/c and start the engine and see if oil is shooting from the rockers. if it is, you have o/p. if it is then i would say there is a wiring issue. if it doesnt, then id pull the dissy and spin it with a drill and see if you have the same result.

oil isn't "shooting" but there is pressure. I have the sending unit mounted next to the distributor. Would another location like next to the oil filter be more accurate? and lastly is it is just a low oil press problem would a new pump be the answer or should I look in other areas first?

Hook up the original guage and see if it has pressure.
