it happened again-parts needed
if this is not kosher with this forum let me know.
this morning as most mornings lately i rode the cycle to work. then at 10:00 my wife calls to tell me someone hit Lefty on the street & they were filling out a police report. at least they guy stopped & called the cops. Kudos to him. he hit it in the left rear pushing the bed forward about 1 1/2". it also moved the whole truck forward 47". he was driving a glass company van with the rack on the rear. I hear it totally tweaked his van. so I called the company & talked to the owner. he said he will file a claim with his insurance co. tomarrow. I am thinking that since these guys are stand-up men that maybe I will offer to settle up without getting the insurance involved. all I ask is that they pay to fix the damage done. they are both honest 7 straight forward so I see no reason to make thier rates go up. what I need to know is how much will a 68-72 long fleet bedside cost. does anyone have one? I am not against possible replacing the whole bed either. steel floor is preferred. I will take Lefty to the body shop in the morning to see if he damaged the cross-sills & if the frame is OK. I tried to get some pics but by the time I had a chance tonight it was too dark.

get the frame checked first. its hard to give an exact bed price because normally the issue is actually finding one

Check the 67-72 parts board, or the 60-66 board. You can post want ads or check parts for sale there. Best of luck to you though!

I would call the owner and tell him your plan. Is he going to make a claim on his van? If so then it doesn't matter because fixing one truck or two still counts as a single incident, or claim. If he plans to fix his van out of his own pocket then he will be in tune with doing the same for your truck.
Let him know that you will get three estimates and you are willing to take an average of the three. That's fair to everyone. The catch is you will have to go get the estimates....

I know there is a guy in Des Moines that sells rust free truck parts but can't remember the company name. Maybe someone else on here will know it. He makes trips down south regularly and brings the stuff back. Sorry to here about your truck !!!!

I have a super straight long fleet bed sitting on a '68, located in Huron. I have been hanging on to the truck for a while now, thinking I am going to do something with it, but that is probably wishful thinking. If you really need the bed, maybe we could work something out. The truck has no motor, and no title. Here is a pic for you.
I also have a set of LWB bedsides that are in decent shape, that I am willing to part with. Send me back a PM and let me know if you are interested. Jeff

I would be really careful if he goes for that plan. If you do do it without insurance makes sure you draw up a simple agreement in writing (doesn't have to be fancy). Maybe it is just the cynical lawyer in me, but even though no one intends for bad things to happen at the beginning, anything can happen and you don't want to be left in the cold. Good luck fixing it.

I am going to Winner in a couple weeks. I know where there is a yard that has a couple decent long beds. If you don't have one by then let me know. Jeff's sounds like a decent deal, it's close!

I know an guy down by Lawrence, KS that has one that has been totally redone. I think he wants 1500 for it. I am going down to get some other parts from him. I could pick it up if you are interested.
