cutting spring question

I know its not the best way to do it but how much drop does cutting out one turn in a coil spring give you. And if you have done this how hard was it and how is the ride? thanks a lot

I got about 2.5 inches of drop out of my 1967 C10 cutting one full turn from the bottom of the front coils. Made it ride like a truck...wait a minute...it is a truck...doh! Very easy to do and the entire job took about 30 minutes.

I cut about a 1/4th coil out of mine, dropped it roughly an inch. If y ou cut it, i'd use either a cut off wheel or a plasma cutter.

I've heard 1/4 cut for every inch. I cut 2 full coils out of a junk pair just for sh!ts and giggles, ended up with 7 1/2 inch drop.

Hehe, like I said, it was for sh!ts and giggles. I never attempted to drive it, and never would. It looked bad as hell though. Right now I'm sporting a 3 inch drop using new drop springs. I'd never go any further without dropped spindles.

What did you have to do to make the 3 inch drop springs work???

I was thinking about it but I heard that 2 1/2 inch was all you could do without longer bolts for something?

And tell us how does it ride?

PICS!!!!

I don't know how it rides yet. It's a full restoration, and I still have a long ways to go.
