First off let me say I am cutting my dash no matter what.

But I want it to look nice so where can I get something like this to fill in the hole and fit my aftermarket cd player?

That almost looks like the wall mart adapter thing for a later stock GM dash converting to aftermarket.
A side note is that this makes it very easy to rip out your stereo in a matter of seconds.

After you cut your dash, your stereo will be stolen eventually and either your window or vent window will get broken in the process not matter what.

I got some extra vents if you want to save it for when that happens

Well right now it is under the dash with two little brackets. So which do you think will get stolen first?

I'm not saying don't cut...I highly recomend cutting for tunes...but I wouldn't use the plastic spacer.

Longhornman I didn't mean that to you. I appreciate your help. I will definatly put some metal supports in to hold it down.

It was the other smart ass comment that didn't make sence because my radio could be so obviously stolen now that in the dash would actually be alot safer.

the plastic trim ring should not make any differance in ease of theft! It is just a 1/4 wide piece of plasic that the cage slides through. The tabs on the metal cage sandwich the cage into the hole in the dash with the trim ring in between. Any decent stereo shop can get these if they don't stock them. I own a mobile car stereo shop and can get you one if you can't find one!

I didn't think twice about cutting my dash I don't think that the AM radio is going to be making any comebacks.

The AM/8-track in my '72 has crome plastic door strip edging around the cut edges. It looks like fairly decent. I heard it may have been installed by the dealer, but that isn't positive. It was a very clean install either way.

Just adding my 2 centc IMHO.

Hey maybe we all need one less cup of coffee on this thread.

The age old controversy to sacifice OEM asthetic looks of the dash for higher quality audio.

To cut or not to cut?

Actually there MAY be a third option.

I can not remember the thread or the poster, but there was an outfit that was doing conversions on old AM/FM radio chassis, and actually putting some quality audio components in them. The CD still had to be remoted (i think), but you could actually use the switch/volume and tuning knobs for the new rig.

IMHO, THAT is an elegant solution to cutting.

I was just looking at the post by 72Longbed about the truck he just bought. The truck has a radio delete on the dash. I have never seen a radio delete in person and have no idea how they mount, but maybe it could be used as a backing plate for a modern stereo.

Hey, doesn't somebody (some company) make stereos that have adjustable knobs that slide side to side to fit our dashes without cutting them?

They're not exactly cheap, but some of the repro parts companies sell stereos that fit the stock holes and look like a stock radio but wire up to a cd changer somewhere else in the truck. I don't know what the quality of em is like but that might stop thieves. If the hole hadn't already been cut in my truck when I bought it I think thats the route I'd take.
