Need A Picture OF Engine Cradle Please?
Could one of you members out there with a 4x4 67-72 with a V8 please take a picture of your engine cradle for me. I need to figure out if I'm making a mistake by using the cradle that I have. It would be good to get a few pictures from different members trucks just to verify that there really is a V8 cradle and a 6 cyl. cradle, and that they are different animals.
I gotta get this straightened out quick, the cab and front clip are going back on Friday. Thanks for your help fellow members, 72longbed P.S. Should have never opened the damn 'Assembly Manual' crap!! Last edited by 72longbed; 11-01-2005 at 10:11 PM. |

Re: Need A Picture OF Engine Cradle Please?
What Blazerman posted looks correct to me also. Thats the v8 type crossmember for 4x4.
I once sold a crossmember to someone that had a 292 originally also...so it didnt work for him with the 292 L25 mount...so I'd say best find a correct one if whats pictured is not what you have. I found the pages you mentioned in the other post also. To me it looks like the lower picture is correct for V8...although it does say W/RPOL25 The top one may be the 292 as from what I can see. Never had a 292 one in hand...just know there's some difference. To me it looks like if the top bracket mounts with 2 bolts in the bottom crossmember in the lower edge areas on both forward and rear edges then its a v8 style. Thats how mine are. The top pic that shows the upper angle bracket mount bolted to the raised middle area and the rear lower edge is not what mine have.

Re: Need A Picture OF Engine Cradle Please?
This drawing I believe shows the difference between the lower cross piece between 292 and the v8..v8 being the lower one. Note L25 on top cross piece.

Re: Need A Picture OF Engine Cradle Please?
Everybody,
what Blazerman is showing is the same cradle as mine. Damn 'Assembly Manual' has a typo in it I guess?!?!?! Got me all worked up and worried that I had the wrong cradle. Thank you all for helping out on this, I might have tore it back out and delayed the build even longer looking for the wrong cradle. Another fine example of why this Board is worth it's weight in gold for us fans of the best trucks ever built!! Thanks Again, 72longbed |

Re: Need A Picture OF Engine Cradle Please?
Heres pic of the crossmember passenger side on my 6 cyl 4x4 GMC suburban 3/4 ton. Looks the same as V8 dont it. But the 292 6cyl one I don't have pic of...just know it's different.
