What about pullies?

Best bet is to look on the parts board. Find someone who has all the parts, pump, box, pulleys. less problems them. You can always also become a sunscribed member and post your wants on the parts board and folks will come to you. Beware, you need one from our year trucks, not the post 72 with integrated head. the brackest are different.

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

Are there different from the earlier I6 stuff, 238 etc. Are they 250 only parts. What are the cut off years?

Does it also apply to a/c brackets?

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

I plan to become a registered member (pay day is Friday) but before I tried to buy parts (my self Christmas present) I wanted to know exactly the right ones so that I would not mistakenly buy useless ones.

I learned this valuable lesson when I bought about 3 sets of pullys from board members when I was trying to find a crank add on pully for short water pump SBC.

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

You'll need to look at a 230/250 engine. A 292 will probably work. The older stsyle 6's...I belive like 235...40s/50/early 60s was a whole different animal and most of the parts will not interchange. If you get the harmonic balancer/pulley, waterpump pulley, brackets, pump off the same vehicle then you'll not normally have any belt alignment issues. The powersteering box & pitman arm (pitman arm is different from power to manual) can come off any 68 to 87 truck and bolt right on (as long as your 2wd to 2wd or 4x4 to 4x4). it is also you will also a good idea to make sure you grab the wrag joint (flex joint between box and steering column shaft). I don't remeber what exactly is different, but something is. I still have all my parts in the box waiting to do
my swap
The only other note is around 80/81, the fittings on the powersteering box went from SAE to metric. It is not a big problem as the make adapters that will allow you to connect the factory style lines/fittings (SAE) to the metric box.

Hope that will give you a focus on what you will need. You can check with some of the board vendors as they may have a setup on the shelf somewhere.

EDIT...I missed your second question. Yes the AC brackets are different for the pre 230/250/292 I6 engines and the later model 230/250/292 engines. Again if you could find an engine with everything on, eve though you'll probably need a new compressor for the AC, it wil help with alignment issues. This I am not real familair with, but if your truck doesn'ty already have AC, you'll be doing a bunch on under dash mods also.

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

I'll show you what Bill is saying just to be clear using pics from one of my swaps (in my gallery link - check my signature)...

The L235/250/292 came with two types of harmonic balancer. One had a wide groove in the middle like this:

http://satellitehead.com/images/68ch...swap%20025.jpg

The other one had a skinny groove in the middle like this:

http://satellitehead.com/images/68ch...swap%20027.jpg

You'll need a couple of things:

You need to know how wide the groove is in your HB - all of your pulleys will need to match. This includes:

Alternator pulley
Water pump/fan pulley
PS pulley

Once you have the correct pulleys, the hard part is finding the brackets. Easy (but expensive) part is getting a good PS gearbox and the pitman arm. Pitman arm will cost about $30 new for a cheap parts store brand and $45 for a good one.

The pitman arm will come with a new rag joint, cotter pins and stuff. You'll need to keep the nut and lockwasher from your old setup. Lots of the nuts and bolts are swappable between both setups.

I have a steering rebuild in my gallery and also a bunch of L6 swap pictures. Check it out for reference if you want - might find something interesting in there.

Last, You will need to find the correct brackets which is prolly the hardest part. I will post pics of what I have for your reference in a sec

If yours is anything like mine, you will also need to modify the driver side bumper brace that goes at a 45º angle from the frame. My PS gearbox bumps into it ... gonna hafta notch it, I think. Not sure if this is normal or not.

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

ok, here you go. here's everything i've accumulated to get PS setup on my truck....then I got a new engine so I didn't hafta worry about it anymore. now I'm stuck with (2) 250's, a muncie 4spd (truck), saginaw 3spd, two bellhousings and almost two full PS setups.

so, here is the PS bracket that seems to be like gold for some reason. I have one mounted to the block and i also have a spare. here are pics of it mounted to the block and just sitting around:

Mounted to block:

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20003.jpg

My spare:
http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20002.jpg

Apparently I lied. There are three kinds of harmonic balancers or something, because this one of my L6's has three grooves on it:

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20004.jpg

Here's one fan pulley and one skinny-double-grooved PS pulley:

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20005.jpg

I am not sure what this pulley is for, it has three bolt holes in the side.

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20006.jpg

Here is also another picture of the three pulleys I have and the bolt holes on all three of them:

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20007.jpg

Here is one pump/fluid resevoir I have with attached brackets for ??? (I assume thank a V8?) and both hoses. Needs some cleaning up.

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20008.jpg
http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20011.jpg

Here's the other pump/resevoir I have with a bracket for ??? (I think an L6? maybe i got em backwards...)

http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20009.jpg
http://www.satellitehead.com/uploads/ps_setup%20010.jpg

So, that's what I bought. All of it together cost me around $275 with shipping and all that other stuff (only difference: i got a PS pitman arm and steering box out of it, which was unusable).

I hope this helps. If anyone can ID the pulleys and brackets I've just posted or confirm if I'm right on stuff, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Here's a couple that work. The little round one is original...the other later year.

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

Pickmup,
I'm new to the board and am looking to convert to power steering. Can you post a pic of how the generator mounts down below the p.s pump? Mine is mounted up high now.

Thanks

Re: Where do you get Power Steering Bracket for a 250

can anyone give me a run down of the size bolts I will need to install all the brackets on the 250 power steering pump setup? I was supplied with the brackets when I bought my engine....but no bolts....I know 9/16th and 5/8th seem to be most common....lengths?
