I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
Recently I installed 15x7 Truck Rally's on the horse truck. They came to me w/o trim rings so I began poking around looking for the "rounded" style rings that I feel look best. I started noticing that a lot of these old trucks have the car rally type rings that are beveled-for lack of a better term. But I didn't want to spend a lot of money on rings cause this truck is a part time drivers training rig for my teenaged daughters.
Low and behold-I walked into Kragen Auto Parts this morning and discovered they stock the rounded style rings for $12.99 each. They're cheap and they look good (from 5 feet away). The bonus is they didn't fly off on the way home.

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
Keep them waxed good because they pit and rust fast.

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
I picked up a set at a local garage sale for $20. The nice thing about the thinner rings is they make the wheels look deeper. Nice truck.
Are you going to Pleasanton this weekend?

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
Blazerparts-I'll take that advice. The rings are the only thing that wax will help here
Tomatocity-Forgot it was coming up. Already made plans. Are you going?

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
Hi Guardrail,
Could you please post a close-up pic of your center caps? They look the same as mine. Except mine have 3-bar, "spinners". I can tell you that they are EXTREMELY rare! No one has them. GM discontinued the part in 1987. Mine are pitted pretty bad. Also some idiot at NTB tried to pry one off and cracked a little piece before I could stop him. Since I can't find any NOS ones, I may have to have them restored and re-chromed. It won't be cheap, though. I haven't ever seen any of this style on e-bay, either. And, I do not like the other style with all the ridges and cut-out areas. Plus, they are not made of plastic! I have the Cragar S/S wheels on the truck now. But I plan to go back with the ralley wheels when I get the restoration done. I'm not giving up on finding some NOS ones, though. TP I do have the original trim rings for mine. They are in perfect condition.

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
I'm ticked because I can't see the pictures, but have seen enough trucks with rally wheels and center caps with trim rings to know that I want something that satisfies me. So, the comment that the narrow rings make the wheels look deeper, answered a question I had about which trim ring to use. So, I think the "hot rod" style is the narrow one I want.
Since Summit Racing has free shipping stated in their catalog, I called to ask about shipping for four wheels. No problemo. For $8.95 shipping and handling, they will ship anything that weighs less than 150 Lbs....per item, not for the composite order. To get them from CA, would add $85 to the price of a set of wheels, and I can't pass up the free shipping.

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
Terry I'm without camera until the middle of next week, but when I get it back I'll be happy to post a picture of one of my center caps. Someone else mentioned that they are rare and I can't take the credit for tracking them down. They were on the set of wheels I bought on ebay. They bolt to the wheel from the back, as I'm sure you know.
KP1972 I wish I knew. As you now know, these particular caps may be expensive if you find them. I definetely didn't "score" on the lug nuts though. The local tire store installed the wheels for me and I didn't look at the bill till I got home--$1.50 a piece--Oh well..... ChevLoRay, I don't know for sure what the "Hot Rod" rings look like. Beware of the ribbed rings though, as that style originally came on F O R D 's...

Re: I Was Trippin' on Trim Rings
I have used the trim rings from 1988-199X Chev trucks to go w/the rally wheels like G'rail has posted above. Check the swap meets...you can get nice sets for $10. And they don't fall off, either.
