Highest mileage truck
So who has the truck with the most miles on the odometer? Proud to say my 70 rolled over 500k miles a couple weeks ago. Alot of them as a kids truck. Do have to say there's not many original parts left. The cab, frame, trailing arms, speedometer/fuel gauge, and a few interior components are original. Literally every single other part has been replaced. Most of the parts are 72. It's still 6 lug but has power discs now(used to be manual drums), 3" drop, blazer tank, 80 350 4bolt with 89 l98 heads, 82 th350, 69 rear .. hehe could go on and on and on. Probably the most durable original part was the th350. It lasted to about 430k miles before I changed it out. Still worked but we tow a horse trailer on occasion and I was afraid the wife would have it give up on her. Anyway, here's a pic on a campin trip this year.

Re: Highest mileage truck
My last one had an undocumented 500k when I bought it, and since I was told they wore out the 305 v-6... i believe it. I'm thinking I only put another 40k on it in the 3 1/2 years I drove it.
But it isn't mine anymore, and I think CHEVYE sold it to a non board member... so it's out of the loop. |

Re: Highest mileage truck
It’s really amazing how Chevy trucks can keep on rolling down the road. At work we usually buy newer Chevy’s (97-05) and run them about 350,000 - 400,000 before we trade them in, usually still running strong.

Re: Highest mileage truck
my first longhorn had a claimed 300k on the original short block, and the one ton longhorn only has like 130K if not mistaken... I'd have to look at the pics since I rolled back the odometer and haven't placed a disclaimer sticker in the door jamb yet.

Re: Highest mileage truck
My brother bought this truck back in 86 when he was 14. At the time it had 140k miles on it.. or maybe 240?? Anyway, we rebuilt the 350 and then had a hardened valve seat fall out and total the whole motor within the first 3k miles. I dropped a fairly fresh 327 in it for him and he ran it that way for years. I got the truck back in 96 or so. 370k miles at that time and the old 327 was very very tired at that point. Valves all worn out, couple burnt and the pistons were just saggin in the bores. So I built it again, ran it a few years then transferred it to my formula and built a 350 for the truck. So as you can see, other then assuming it was 140k and not 240k at the beginning, it for sure has 500k at least. My brother was also the 4th highschool age owner, there used to be alot of stories told about this old truck.

Re: Highest mileage truck
164K, pretty good for a farm truck and a couple cam swaps. it spun a rod recently so we'll get it rebuilt and moving eventually.

Re: Highest mileage truck
my 71 k10 has 183K on the original motor and trans, never been touched other than trans flushes and oil changes. she smokes and is a bit low on power but still runs great. the only thing that isnt original is the carb and dist. and i rebuilt the rearend last year, but thats it. other little things to i guess, like alt/ starters and u-joints and brakes, but overall an original work truck.

Re: Highest mileage truck
My 69 step has 530,000. Driver door has been replaced, but still original sheet metal otherwise. This motor has 160,000 on it and still working hard each day. (I just have to check the oil a bit more often!)
Have been debating whether or not to buy a newer truck for a daily driver, then restore the 69, but am wondering why not just invest that money in the 69.

Thinking about new car smell. Has anyone else noticed that the new cars and trucks do not have the same new car smell that they use to years ago? Maby it is all that plastic they stick in there today, not for sure. But I know the smell is not as nice as it use to be back in the 50's, '60 and also the '70's. Now they had that "new car smell".
