88-98 tilt column?
Curious if anyone has done or tried this...only one I've seen is the orange crew cab that had a seriously butchered dash (they modded the ~2000 chevy dash into it) so nothing looked very original....I'm curious to know how hard it would be to put an 88-98 locking manual tilt column into my K5.
I figure the locking column would add more security when the top's off and I could unclutter the dash some by shaving the spot where the key went, plus manual 88-98 tilt columns are way more common (and cheaper) than 67-72 truck manual tilts or van tilts, neither of which lock. |

Re: 88-98 tilt column?
It would probably work, but it would mean a lot of rewiring sicne it has the wipers and a few other things on the stick, depending on what year you grab. If you are talking an automatic, then you'll have to find some way to set up a gear selector readout, since those years are in the dash and not on the column. Thcolumn lock is not much of a safety feature, but it might deter the true amateur. Those locks come out in a few seconds and are just as easy to pick to make work.
I am not sure about length or mating difference, but I am pretty sure you can make it work if that is what you want.

With a big enough hammer and the right skills you can put anything in there. But as far as I can remember I don't know of anyone trying this.

Re: 88-98 tilt column?
it can be done but its alot of work I put a auto.tilt column out of a 89 c10 in a 71 c10. had to move the gear shift ear a 180 deg. a take the collar off the lower column cut the key switch out and doughed over hole .the shaft from the bottom of the column to sterring gear had to be shorted (pushed in) and the floor or fire wall plate had to be cut off . going to use aftermart wire harness .also took the lock out , and the lower tube of column had to cut and turn 180 deg. and welded back on (just the outer tube not the shaft) but with a welder a big hammer you can do just about anything you want to(there is alot of smalll things you have do also it took me and my bother about a day 8hours or more to do and I would do it again it great.)

Re: 88-98 tilt column?
I'm curious why you deleted the ignition switch?
