Ball joint wear

Can anyone tell me how to tell if ball joints are worn.I think mine are fine but plan on putting new spindles on soon and want to be sure I don't put them on bad joints.I looked in FAQ's and didn't find any info on this.

Re: Ball joint wear

Jack the truck in the air. Lift the bottom of the tire outward and toward the top, while someone looks at the ball joint. If it deflects at all, it's bad.

Also a good check for wheel bearings.

Re: Ball joint wear

When you jack it up, put the jack under the spring pocket on the control arm so the ball joint has no pressure on it. If not you will just find wheel bearing play if there is any.
